Agricultural market project is expected to market US $ 1.25 billion in products per year
A large agricultural products mall will be built in the suburban Songjiang district with an estimated annual trade volume of around 8 billion yuan ($ 1.25 billion).
Nanjiao International Agricultural Resource Allocation Center will be the country’s first global agricultural resource center.
Located in Yexie City, the wholesale market invested by Shanghai Vegetable (Group) Co Ltd will be a food supply base covering the entire Yangtze River Delta region.
It will also be a one-stop smart fresh produce market integrating the functions of trade, warehouse, consumption, catering, exhibition and convention, and central kitchen.
Covering approximately 300 mu (20.1 hectares) of land, the entire construction of the project is expected to take approximately five years.
The construction of the first phase covering 180 mu of land, at a cost of 2.575 billion yuan, is expected to begin next year.
A flower trade zone, warehouse and cold storage facilities, as well as a consumer experience zone, will also be established at the center. They will be complemented by a research and development center for agricultural products and an incubator for innovation and start-up of new online economies of agricultural products.
The expected annual commercial volume from the center is estimated at around 1 million tonnes.
As an important agricultural town of Songjiang, Yexie has the largest harvest in the district, ensuring a plentiful supply of fruits and vegetables.
Its Punan Agricultural Wholesale Market is one of Shanghai’s four vegetable bases.
